8.30 FRIDAY 20 MAY 2011

Paddy Bushe, Máire Breathnach, Seosaimhín Ní Bheaglaíoch, Steve Cooney and  Ceaití Ní Bheildiúin.

Tonight IMRAM will launch Coiglimís an Tine, a collection of traditional folk tales by the late Bab Feiritéar, edited by Bo Almqvist and Roibeard Ó Cathasaigh. Poet Paddy Bushe is know throughout Ireland for what Nuala Ní Dhomnaill decribes as the ‘huge metaphoric force’ of his work; tonight he will be accompanied by acclaimed fiddler Máire Breathnach. Acclaimed singer Seosaimhín Ní Bheaglaíoch will be joined by guitar genius Steve Cooney. In her collections An Teorainn Bheo and Púca gan Dealramh, Ceaití Ní Bheildiúin explores themes of childhood, love and ageing in poems of great clarity and sensitivity.

8.30 FRIDAY 13 MAY 2011

Pádraig Mac Fhearghusa, Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh, Celia de Fréine and Alan Burke.

Tonight will see the launch of poet Pádraig Mac Fhearghusa’s latest collection Geasa. He is the editor of the literary magazine Feasta and the former president of Conradh na Gaeilge. His poetry has been praised as ‘delicately dour, darkly, warmly human’. Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh’s Péacadh has been praised by the Irish Times for its ‘true voice’ and the skilful manner in which her poetry explores ‘the fragility of human existence and language’. Celia de Fréine’s collections include Fiacha Fola and the recently published bi-lingual imram/odyssey in which, as the Irish Times noted, ‘the richly textured Irish finds its English parallel in clarity and economy of expression, in the creation of a style that moves easily from personal observation to subjects of historical weight’.  Alan Burke has a voice described as being ‘full of power, sensitivity and clarity’. His guitar playing, being influenced by his earlier incarnation as a session drummer, is defined by strong driving rhythms alongside a more gentle and sympathetic approach to the quieter side of his repertoire.

8.30 FRIDAY 6 MAY 2011

Eoghan Mac Giolla Bhride, Proinsias Mac a’ Bhaird, Doimnic Mac Giolla Bhríde and Máire Ní Choilm.

Eoghan Mac Giolla Bhríde is the author of Idir Feoil is Leathar and Díbeartaigh, short-story collections charged with wit, surrealism and folklore, set in landscapes from Gaoth Dobhair to Guatemala. Poet, dramatist and novelist Proinsias Mac a’ Bhaird is a forceful new voice in irish literature, whose poetry is deeply imbedded in the landscapes of his native Donegal; his latest novel Rún an Bhonnáin is a thrilling tale of a serial killer amidst the world of sean-nós singers. Singer and composer Doimnic Mac Giolla Bhríde is the director of Chór Thaobh a’ Leithid. His 2004 debut album Saol na Suáilce won widespread acclaim for its fresh approach to and deep understanding of the Donegal sean-nós tradition. He was the winner of Corn Uí Riada in 2009. Máire Ní Choilm has just released her first CD, Nuair a théid sé fán chroí. She has won many awards as a singer including Oireachtas, Comórtas na mBan in 1997 and 2009; the All-Ireland Fleadh, Gaeilge 2005 and the Pan Celtic Traditional singing competition in 2008.
